IRS Testimony To House Ways and Means Subcommittee

Richard J. Morgante, Commissioner of the Wage and Investment Division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) testified before the House Ways And Means Committee's Subcommittee on The Oversight On The Earned Income Tax Credit And Outreach Efforts To Encourage Eligible Taxpayers To File. Of particular interest is the section ‘Characteristics of People who are Eligible but Don't Claim EITC’.

Updated Instruction for CSBG Refunding Application

The Virginia Department of Social Services has gotten a few calls from Community Action Agencies (CAA) that are administering Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)  programs. The CAAs are seeking guidance on how to complete the CSBG A-12 EITC/VITA Questionnaire, a required part of the 2008 CSBG refunding application. If you have questions about filling out this questionnaire, please call the VACAP office.

Smyth County News & Messanger recognizes Mountain CAP

VACAP is pleased to announce that Smyth County News & Messenger has recognized Mountain Community Action Program (MCAP) for its free income tax service. MCAP has provided free income tax preparation for many years and for the first time, is offering electronic filing of federal income taxes for individuals or families in Bland, Wythe, and Smyth counties.
